Students in our Spanish Immersion Pathway learn all the NC Standards just like their traditional English counterparts... just in Spanish
Language immersion programs are an exciting option for parents who want their children to have the advantages of a rigorous academic program while also learning two languages – English and a target language. In a Spanish immersion program, Spanish is not taught as a subject; Spanish is the language in which instruction is delivered.
Offering our Spanish Immersion Pathway at 4 of our elementary schools across the district - Sherrills Ford Elementary, Startown Elementary, Lyle Creek Elementary, and St. Stephens Elementary - is just one more way we are making education better. You may apply to any of our 4 programs, regardless of which school you are assigned or which school district you are in. You just have to provide your own transportation!
Enrolling in Spanish Immersion requires 2 steps:
Step 1: Find out which school your child is assigned (by address)

Enter Your Address Here
Step 2: Complete the registration process by contacting your child's school
Once you know your child's school district, contact the school. School personnel will need your first and last name, your email address, current phone number, student's full name, and date of birth.
Click HERE for Kindergarten Screening/Parent Orientation Dates and School Phone Numbers.
Step 3: Your school will contact you to set up a screening appointment at your school.
In this fun and interactive appointment, one of our educators will work one-on-one with your child to engage in conversations and highlight his/her ability to complete simple academic tasks.
While you wait, you will have an opportunity for a meet and greet with your school's leadership and friendly staff.
Please note: If you haven't heard from your school regarding a screening appointment by the end of March, please contact the school again.
Step 4: While you're waiting to get your appointment time, please gather these documents to complete your child's enrollment on their screening date:
- Certified copy of child’s Birth Certificate. Need one? Click here.
- Parent / Guardian Photo ID (Name must be on birth certificate or guardian documents)
- Custody papers (if applicable)
