Inspired Teaching Drives Empowered Learning.
We believe that the most effective educational methods are those that empower teachers to do their best work - to engage students and inspire them to learn while giving them the tools necessary to take charge of their own education. We support a myriad of innovative programs and encourage the continued evolution of our classrooms.
Here are just a few highlights:
- Differentiated and relevant instruction that embraces critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication
- Research-based, progressive teaching methods
- STEM activities that make higher-level learning relevant
- Flexible classrooms with creative seating
- 1:1 student to technology ratio with a goal of staying abreast of modern and future technology
- Commitment to continued student health, safety, and responsibility
Making Education Better
We strive to make education better by empowering our team to create a rigorous academic experience in a nurturing environment. We seek to inspire each student’s intellectual growth, encourage them to take initiative, and engage their sense of shared responsibility.
The idea that our daughter could graduate high school with an associate's degree and no college debt is a life-changing opportunity that we never imagined was possible.

Empowering the Future
Our promise to empower students and teachers for the future is rigorously promoted at every grade level. We are proud to offer:
Spanish Immersion ProgramA Spanish Immersion Program hosted at three of our elementary schools offers a rich bilingual experience for young learners when their brains are developmentally most able to acquire a second language. The immediate and long-term cognitive benefits of a dual language program are endless.
Online Catawba Virtual AcademyOnline Catawba is designed for students who want to take charge of their education whether they may need more flexibility, an additional challenge, or who may perform better outside of a traditional classroom. Utilizing local, certified teachers, our program offers the flexibility of learning at a student’s own pace, while still having the same access to a K-64 Chromebook, arts, athletics, and other extracurricular activities as traditional CCS students.
Students can choose to take all of their courses online, a hybrid model where some courses are taken online and some are taken in-person at school, or even take extra courses while at school.
Free to Catawba County residents, Online Catawba offers 40+ high school courses in a range of subjects at all levels - general, honors, and Advanced Placement (AP). For grades 5-8, we offer virtual reading, math, science, and social studies courses.
Career & College Promise Career & College Promise (CCP) allows students to take college-level courses, tuition-free, while still in high school. Active participants can accumulate credits that seamlessly transfer to public and private colleges and universities, while students who want to pursue a technical career through our Career & Technical Education Program can earn tuition-free credits toward a certificate, job credential, or technical diploma at a North Carolina Community College.
K-64 Learning K-64 is public education, government, and business/industry partnership which allows business leaders to communicate their workforce needs to educators to ensure that CCS can meet the current and future needs of our community. Businesses provide funding to meet these critical education needs while supporting a comprehensive and inspiring educational environment. The result is an education that works for students in the real world.
