Drivers Education
Driver's Education
Getting your driver's license is an exciting and momentous occasion! We are happy to help begin that process by providing classroom and driving instruction at all of our high school campuses including Challenger Early College.
To be eligible students must:
- Be 14.5 years old by the time they will take the class, and
- Attend a school in the Catawba County Schools district, or
- Be home-schooled at a residence in the Catawba County Schools district, or
- Attend a private school that is located in the Catawba County Schools district.
Sign up for a class today!
Students should register for a class through the front office of the school that will provide the driver education instruction. Class sizes are limited and are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Driver education classes are offered through both a seated (in-person) and virtual format. Students will access the coursework through Canvas using their Catawba County Schools issued email. Homeschool and private school students will need a gmail account to access the coursework.
A non-refundable $65 fee is required at registration. Families must provide at least one week’s notice if a class needs to be rescheduled. Failure to do so will result in an additional $65 registration fee for the new class.
Please note, if the district is closed for inclement weather, then all driver education classes and behind the wheel sessions will be cancelled. The driver education instructor will contact you to reschedule any missed time.

- Level 3: "Full Provisional License" ($5.50 per year paid to DMV) - After 6 months of having your "limited provisional license" and having logged at least 12 hours of driving, you may apply for your "Full Provisional License" which allows for driving unsupervised at any time.
