Catawba County Schools Announces Four Principal Appointments
NEWTON, June 8, 2026 -- Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced the appointment of four new principals following approval by the Board of Education at its June 8 meeting. Heather Kelly, Rai Robinson, Lauren Timblin, and Matthew Barham will assume their new leadership roles on July 1, 2026.
“We are excited that these four talented educators will be sharing their passion, leadership, and experience with our students, staff, and families,” said Dr. Stover. “Each of these leaders has already made a significant impact within our district, and it is especially rewarding to see them continue their professional journey in these new roles.”
Heather Kelly
Principal, Mountain View Elementary School
Heather Kelly currently serves as assistant principal at Mill Creek Middle School. Her career includes classroom teaching positions in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Catawba County Schools, as well as assistant principal roles at Maiden Elementary and Mill Creek Middle. She holds degrees from Pfeiffer University and Appalachian State University.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to serve as the next principal of Mountain View Elementary,” said Kelly. “My goal is to build upon the school's strong tradition of excellence by fostering meaningful relationships, supporting high-quality instruction, and ensuring every student feels known, challenged, and inspired.”
Rai Robinson
Principal, Webb A. Murray Elementary School
Rai Robinson currently serves as assistant principal at Webb A. Murray Elementary School. Prior to entering school administration, he spent nine years teaching physical education at Lyle Creek and Blackburn Elementary Schools while also coaching baseball at Fred T. Foard High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education and a Master of School Administration degree.
“I am honored to serve as the next principal at Murray Elementary School,” said Robinson. “Murray is a special place with some of the best teachers and students in Catawba County.”
Lauren Timblin
Principal, St. Stephens Elementary School
Lauren Timblin currently serves as assistant principal at St. Stephens Elementary School. Her educational experience includes leadership and instructional roles in both Catawba County Schools and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY Fredonia and completed the School Executive Leadership Academy through Queens University.
“I am honored to be named the new principal at St. Stephens Elementary,” said Timblin. “I believe my role as principal is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
Matthew Barham
Principal, St. Stephens High School
Matthew Barham currently serves as principal of St. Stephens Elementary School and will return to his alma mater as principal of St. Stephens High School. Prior to school administration, he taught Career and Technical Education at River Bend Middle School for 12 years while also serving as a coach, athletic director, and mentor to beginning teachers. He holds degrees from Gardner-Webb University and Queens University of Charlotte.
“I am honored and excited to return to my alma mater and work alongside our students, staff, and community,” said Barham. “I look forward to continuing St. Stephens High School’s strong tradition of academic excellence while building on its proud legacy.”
