Catawba County Schools Names New Director

NEWTON, May 18, 2026 — Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced the appointment of Devin Houston as Director of Maintenance following confirmation by the Board of Education at its May 18 meeting.
“We are excited to continue promoting talented leaders from within our district,” said Dr. Stover. “Devin’s experience and dedication to Catawba County Schools have helped support safe and welcoming learning environments for our students and staff for many years.”
Mr. Houston brings 18 years of experience with Catawba County Schools and has served in a variety of operational and leadership roles across the district. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Director of Construction and Maintenance for the past three years.
Throughout his career with CCS, Mr. Houston has served as Health and Environmental Coordinator, Custodial Specialist, co-managed several major construction and renovation projects, and supervised the day-to-day operations of the Construction and Maintenance Department.
Mr. Houston earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University.
“I look forward to continuing the strong standards established by my predecessors within the Maintenance Department,” said Houston. “Our mission is to provide facilities that are safe, comfortable, and secure for the students and staff of Catawba County Schools.”
A resident of Claremont, Mr. Houston shares that his wife, Kristin, is a teacher for Catawba County Schools, and their two children also attend CCS schools.
