CCS CTO Marty Sharpe Earns Two Statewide Technology Leadership Award

Catawba County Schools Chief Technology Officer Marty Sharpe received two major statewide recognitions this week for his leadership and innovation in educational technology.
On Thursday at the 2026 NCTIES Conference, Sharpe was presented with the prestigious ISTE “Making IT Happen” Award. The award, presented by the North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES) in partnership with ISTE, recognizes K–12 educators and leaders who demonstrate extraordinary commitment and innovation in using technology to improve teaching and learning.
Sharpe was recognized for his leadership in expanding technology access, promoting responsible and innovative uses of artificial intelligence in education, and building partnerships that support digital learning opportunities for students and educators.
Just one day earlier, Sharpe was also honored as the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s Technology Director of the Year, highlighting the impact of his work across Catawba County Schools and beyond. His leadership has helped strengthen digital infrastructure, expand classroom technology tools, and position CCS as a leader in emerging technologies that support student learning.
Sharpe is also widely respected for his collaborative work with technology leaders across North Carolina and throughout the United States, where he shares best practices and helps shape conversations around the future of technology in education.
Receiving two statewide awards in two days reflects Sharpe’s lasting impact on students, educators, and the broader educational technology community.
