• Welcome to Oxford Elementary School, home of the Cubs!

Oxford Elementary School is situated in the heart of Claremont, North Carolina surrounded by sprawling farms on three sides and woods on the fourth! Serving around 700 Preschoolers-Sixth graders, Oxford is one of the larger elementary schools in the district. We are part of the Bunker Hill High School feeder district. Our students feed into Riverbend Middle School then to Bunker Hill High School along with Catawba, Claremont, and Lyle Creek Elementary Schools.

Oxford has a close-knit family atmosphere. In fact about one-third of our staff attended Oxford and two of our teachers, Mrs. Lamb and Mrs. Rink, and 2nd generation Oxford teachers!

Beginning in 2013, Oxford Elementary became a Leader in Me school. We are only 1 of 2 in the Catawba County district. The Leader in Me is a school wide transformation model. It is based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey. Students learn the 7 habits and how they can incorporate these habits into every facet of their lives to help them be more successful and happy leaders. From pre-school through 6th grade, the students at Oxford Elementary understand and apply the 7 Habits continually in everything they do at home and at school.

    These habits are:

    Habit 1: Be Proactive

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Habit 3: Put First Things First

    Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

    Habit 6: Synergize

    Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

The Leader in Me produces incredible results such as higher academic achievement, fewer discipline problems, and increased engagement among teachers and parents. Better yet, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to achieve academically and socially.

The motto of our school is to Lead and Inspire and this is what is happening every day in our classrooms. As the 7 Habits become the culture of our school and our students become leaders of the 21st century.
