Can you believe that we have completed 1st quarter and 45 days of the school year? Tuesday, October 30th, began 2nd quarter. If you have not had your Parent/ Teacher Conference for 1st quarter with your child’s teacher, please make sure it is scheduled within the next week. Discuss with your child his or her 2nd quarter goals that he or she will set for the 2nd quarter. Additionally, discuss with your child daily about what he or she is learning at school. Ask the question, “What are you learning in (i.e. Math, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies)?” Your child should be able to give you specifics and not just activities. Additionally, your child should be able to answer this question for each core subject and the special area classes as well. Be sure that you are checking your child’s folder or agenda daily. Please check homework assignments that are written in the agenda daily. Remember the agenda is a great communication tool for parents and teachers.
We will be celebrating students Success this first 9 weeks in a couple different ways. We will have our Honor Roll Parade on Thursday, November 8th at 1:30. All students who earned A or A/B Honor Roll will be recognized as they parade the building. We will also have the Success Celebration for Students who earned it on Friday, November 9th. Students meeting 3 out of 4 of their Quarterly goals in Reading, Behavior, Attendance, and Academics will be eligible for this celebration. They will be having popcorn and a movie.
I appreciate all the parents who attended our Family Reading Night, while there weren’t as many as we had hoped, those who came seemed to have fun practicing their reading skills and playing games. The partnership between home and school is so vital to student’s education. I hope that each and every one of you will continue to be involved and help us instill in all students that learning is the key to their success. Together we can create the BEST school in Catawba County. Here are some tips for helping your child be successful at Oxford:
Together we are growing learners and leaders, the future of our state and community. Thank you for your continued support!
