The Banoak Buzz: February 19-22
Here are a few updates heading into this week.
First, I'd like to thank you for your patience as we worked through a rough few weeks with illnesses. Our attendance improved last week, and we were grateful for the diligence of our parents in attempting to keep sick children home. Many of our parents are worried about attendance and getting notices of excessive absences. Please note there is a district wide attendance policy, and if your child is absent, we require a written documentation for the absence to be excused.
We are also experiencing a tremendous amount of tardy students. Our tardy bell rings at 7:30am. Please have your child here prior to that time. We can assist you with a bus route should you wish to inquire about a stop.
Lastly, I'd like to make you are aware of our conduct policy. Our behavior matrix covers students with ratings of Satisfactory, Needs Improvement, and Unsatisfactory. This model also drives our reward programs. We are updating classroom policies to match the school-wide rating system. Implementing Class Dojo this year caused some inconsistencies with an "I", or Improving, rating which has been redundant and caused a little confusion. From this point forward, report card and progress reports for Conduct will use the Satisfactory, Needs Improvement, or Unsatisfactory ratings.
Again, we appreciate your patience and support for Banoak. Please contact the school should you have any questions.
I hope you had an enjoyable weekend, and we look forward to seeing our Chargers tomorrow!
Charge Forward, Charge Together!

Catawba County Schools is excited to announce that we are expanding the mental health services that are available for our students. Beginning in the 2017 – 2018 school year, we will contract with Support, Inc. to provide School Based Therapy in all of our schools. Without ever having to leave the school campus, your child can work confidentially with an individual therapist on issues impacting their lives. Support, Inc. can begin the referral process for your child this summer and provide services without delay when school starts back. If your child has previously received school-based therapy services from another provider, you can transfer your services to Support, Inc. this summer as well. Please contact Maria Ballard, Director of Student Services, if you would like additional information or if you have any questions.
