From The Principal

  • We hope you are enjoying the last weeks of summer.  The 2017-2018 school year is set to begin in only a few short weeks.  Schedules are still being adjusted in an effort to balance class sizes.  Students will receive their schedules at Open House on Thursday, August 24.  We invite students and parents to drop-in between 2pm and 6pm on August 24 to receive schedules, meet teachers, and pickup supply lists.  Our PTO will have Arndt Spirit Wear available for purchase.

We would like to especially welcome our new students.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do to ease the transition to your new school.  Seventh grade students need to bring 2 proofs of address to Open House.  Proofs of address include the following statements or bills: power, water, gas, cable/satellite, internet, landline telephone, lease/purchase agreement, or driver's license.

Students planning to try out for an athletic team need to have a current physical (within the past 12 months), completed concussion form, and insurance waiver.  These forms can be found on the HMA homepage.  Dates for camps and tryouts can also be found on the school’s homepage.

The first day of school for students is Monday, August 28.  The tardy bell rings at 8am.  Please plan on longer than normal car rider lines and delayed bus routes the first few days of school.  We plan on 2017-2018 being a successful school year with high student growth!

    Summer Reading

Please remember to read over the summer!  Students can keep a reading log and earn a reward for reading 1,000 minutes.  A link to the reading log can be found in the announcements section on this webpage.

    Academic Excellence

HMA is proud to be in the top 5% of all NC schools for student academic growth.  Our students and teachers are able to achieve this honor by maintaining high standards and requiring rigorous academic coursework.

HMA Math teachers are utilizing Chromebooks to help prepare our students with 21st century skills. The Chromebooks were able to be purchased through a donation from Cargo Transporters.  Thank you John Pope and Cargo Transporters!
