December is here! Cooler temperatures… disappearing daylight. The upcoming weeks can become quite overwhelming as families prepare for family gatherings, special travels, and perhaps some shopping outings in preparation for special traditions. As much as we’d all like to feel that we are organized and well-prepared for the upcoming weeks, each family deals with the stress of the holidays in different ways. Oftentimes, children fall victim to later bedtimes, hectic trips to the store for that last item, and sometimes experience first-hand the financial stress that plagues many families during this time of the year. Routines often fall to the wayside along with daily reading practices, consistent homework support, and even family meals. At times families need to make a concerted effort to see that the rush and stresses of the holiday season do not seep into their child’s daily routine and need for consistency.
I appreciate all our parents/guardians who were able to participate in parent-teacher conferences this year. We had an excellent participation! Thanks again for taking time from your busy schedules to conference with your child’s teacher. Good communication between home and school greatly increases the success rate of students. I ask that if you have not met with your child’s teacher, please do prior to Christmas break. We thank you for helping your child get off to a good start. Students demonstrate higher achievement gains when they have good attendance. Being on time is just as important. At Oxford instruction starts at 7:25 a.m., help your children by making sure they have good attendance and arrive on time.
Beginning in December I will be inviting different groups of parents to school each month for Coffee and Conversation. This will be a time for Mr. Adams and I to meet with different groups of parents to have informal conversations and provide an opportunity for open dialogue about topics of interest regarding Oxford Elementary. I encourage as many parents as are available to attend the month when you are invited.
My sincere wishes to you and your family for a wonderful holiday season! Thank you for your continued support.
