About Mr. Ervin
Since graduating from Appalachian State University in 2000, with a degree in Physical Education, I have been employed by the Catawba County School district in Newton, NC. I have worked in my current position of Physical Education teacher at Startown Elementary School for the last 17 years. While teaching at Startown, I have mentored many student teachers from Appalachian State University and Lenior-Rhyne University. I have served as the Healthful Living Chair for my school district. I'm currently a national presenter for US Games, a PE supply company. Some of my top achievements include Startown Teacher of the Year (2005, 2015), North Carolina Elementary PE Teacher of the Year (2016) and National Board teaching certification. One of my favorite aspects of the job is working with the school’s PE Club. The club consists of 3rd through 6th graders that perform in the areas of jump roping and unicycling. The PE Club has performed many places including; local high schools and elementary schools, retirement communities, university and college basketball halftime shows, and even NBA halftime shows. I look forward to continuing in a career path that I love by sharing ideas with others and working collaboratively with colleagues to create new and innovative physical education activities.
