In 2005, Fred T. Foard High School received its first ever Army Junior ROTC program as a part of its curriculum. Within the first semester of the program, the Junior ROTC "Tiger Battalion"  made a huge impact within the school and the surrounding community.

The Fred T. Foard JROTC program has one primary mission and that is “To motivate young people to become better citizens.” This is accomplished through a diverse curriculum and in depth leadership development. Cadets are instructed in major areas that include: nutrition, physical fitness, citizenship, financial planning, first aid, drill and ceremonies, leader development, planning, and geography. The goal is to have the cadet excel in school and also to excel in life after school.

One of the more noticeable ways that cadets are seen is through their volunteering in the school and in the community. Cadets are required to volunteer a certain amount of hours each semester, and this is factored into their overall grade. Events such as: Color Guards, Honor Guards, athletic event support, concession stand support, retirement home visitation, helping disabled citizens, and many more constitute the majority of the volunteer activities. Additionally, cadets are required to participate in one service learning project, which requires them to plan/organize a project, execute the project, and then conduct an after action review. As a result, cadets are intimately involved in school projects and community service.

There are five active teams within the battalion: Air Rifle Team, Raider Team, Drill Team, Color Guard, and Honor Guard. The Air Rifle, Raider, and Drill teams compete regularly across the state in competitions against other schools. The Color Guard and Honor Guard perform activities at athletic events, community gatherings, memorial events, parades, schools and other related areas.
