Your school counselor directly delivers counseling services in the following areas:

School counseling core curriculum: This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students attain the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level. The school counseling core curriculum is delivered throughout the school’s overall curriculum and is systematically presented by me in collaboration with our teachers and group activities. A few examples this year are Start with Hello lessons and program, Mix it Up at Lunch program and social media lessons in PE. I am also partnering with our school nurse to co- teach "Catch My Breath", a prevention based curriculum for vaping and e cigarette use.

Individual student planning: School counselors coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist students in establishing personal goals and developing future plans. Specifically, I will be conducting guidance lessons with 8th graders regarding career exploration in preparation for high school registration. Also, I am available to work one on one with students for advisement and career interests. Teachers may also contact me to assist with decision making and conflict management for personal goals.

Responsive services: Responsive services are activities designed to meet students’ immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include counseling in individual or small-group settings or crisis response. A small group will be run each quarter starting 2nd nine weeks. Some examples of current and planned groups are as follows: self esteem, resolving conflict and coping skills for stress and anxiety.

Please contact me to discuss any concerns or to schedule and appointment to help support you and your child. Middle school years are short lived but very challenging for students and parents. Peer pressure and lack of good decision making can often lead to those challenges! I strive to have an impact on these years by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that is relative by collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe, respectful learning environment for tweens to be successful.

I am also here to enhance the learning process and promote academic, career and social/emotional development. A school counseling program is essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of our community.

Since students are more successful learners when they attend school, one of my goals is to improve attendance for all students by removing any barriers to attending school. If you have concerns or would like your child to attend school more often or regularly, please do not hesitate to contact me to work together.
