    A school counselor's job is to promote ALL students' development in 3 key areas: 1) academic, 2) personal-social, and 3) career readiness. They act as leaders in their school to promote a positive school climate, they advocate for students, and they collaborate with teachers, parents, school staff and other community professionals.

     

    School counselors use  data   to:          

    1) determine the needs of students

    2) design interventions to meet student needs

    3) evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions

     

    They provide direct & indirect services to meet students' needs:

    Direct services (directly working with students)

    *Classroom guidance lessons   * Group counseling          

    *Individual counseling              * Crisis response      

    Indirect services (services that indirectly benefit students)

    *Staff development                   

    *Collaboration (with parents, teachers, school staff, and other community professionals)

    *Parent workshops and trainings

    * Staff appreciation

    *Advocating for students
