Beginning in 2013, Oxford Elementary became a Leader in Me school. We were 1 of only 2 in the Catawba County district to be chosen to implement The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. The Leader in Me is a school wide transformation model. It is based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey. Students learn the 7 habits and how they can incorporate these habits into every facet of their lives to help them be more successful and happy leaders. From pre-school through 6th grade, the students at Oxford Elementary understand and apply the 7 Habits continually in everything they do at home and at school.

    These habits are:

    Habit 1: Be Proactive

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

Habit 3: Put First Things First

    Habit 4: Think Win-Win

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

    Habit 6: Synergize

    Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

    Habit 8: Find Your Voice

The Leader in Me produces incredible results such as higher academic achievement, fewer discipline problems, and increased engagement among teachers and parents. Better yet, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to achieve academically and socially.

The motto of our school is to Lead and Inspire and this is what is happening every day in our classrooms. As the 7 Habits become the culture of our school and our students become leaders of the 21st century.
