Why I am a Theatre Arts 🎭 Teacher...
I want you to know why I choose this as my profession. I did not have the luxury of a Theatre Arts Teacher in high school. We had an English teacher that taught a theater class but no actual theatre teacher. (Don't get me wrong. She was wonderful but I know it is not the same.) I started college with Elementary Education as my major. I always felt like being a teacher was my calling. I was told about auditions for a Children’s play and knew I always loved acting and thought why not... I auditioned and got a role. Through that one brave and scary thing... (auditioning..) I found myself. I knew what a wonderful experience being in a play was and I was addicted. Theatre is an amazing art.... it teaches teamwork, empathy, compassion, creativity, family, respect, laughing at yourself, how to take constructive criticism, how to give constructive criticism, that all emotions are there for a purpose, building a "life box" filled with good and bad but also with understanding of our fellow man, being able to create an art that impacts people and then striking the set and letting go of it. I can go on and on about theatre. It is my passion. I tell my students that if they leave my room with the ability to respect others and put themselves in another's shoes I have successfully done my job.
