Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Iowa State Univesity
Welcome to 5th Grade Science! This will be my 9th year teaching at Lyle Creek Elementary School and my 8th year teaching 5th grade science. I am married to my college sweetheart, Brian. We have two boys ages 15 and 17. We also have a Golden Retriever named Wrigley and a bearded dragon named Godzilla. I grew up in California, Virginia, and Illinois. I attended Iowa State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an area of specialization in Spanish.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, hiking, and gardening. This summer, I traveled to the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC to learn about marine debris (plastic in our oceans) and how to minimize our impact on the environment. I also attended the Smithsonian Science Education Teacher Academy in Washington, D.C. to learn about energy. I got to go behind the scences at the Smithsonian museums and meet the scientists who curate the exibits. It was the trip of a lifetime! In August, I attended Google Certification training and hiked to waterfalls in North Carolina.
I love teaching science, and I hope you will enjoy our time together in 5th grade. I am passionate about reaching the potential and hidden talents in every student! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Note: My homework and links to helpful information for my class are on my Google Classroom. If you are a parent and would like an invitation to receive access to my Google Classrooms, please send me a note in your child's planner or an email with your email address. You will be able to view all of my assignments. I hope this helps!
