Blackburn Elementary is a K-6 school that is located in rural southwestern Catawba County, approximately 8 miles west of Newton on NC HWY 10. The land on which Blackburn Elementary School is built was once donated by William Henry Blackburn in 1919. Blackburn started as a high school (Blackburn High School) in 1928. The high school was remodeled in 1977 and became Blackburn Middle School. With a growing population, the school closed it doors for renovations in 1994 and in July of 1995, Blackburn transitioned to become an elementary school.
One hundred percent of Blackburn Elementary School teachers are fully licensed, and 35% have advanced degrees. Seventy-one percent of teachers have ten or more years of teaching experience.
We are part of the Fred T. Foard High School feeder district along with Banoak and Mountain View Elementary Schools.
