Catawba County Schools Announces New Director

Principal Appointed to District Post

 

NEWTON, March 28, 2023 -- Catawba County Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Stover announced a new district appointment.  Mr. Stephen Westmoreland was named Director of High School Education and Athletics, effective June 1, 2023. The school board confirmed the position on Monday night at their regular Board of Education meeting. 

Stephen Westmoreland has served as Principal at Fred T. Foard High School since 2015. Westmoreland graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lenoir-Rhyne University and played football for the Bears. He began his teaching career at Claremont Elementary and coached football at Bunker Hill and Newton Conover High Schools. Westmoreland received his Master’s in school administration from Appalachian State University. He began his administrative career at Bandys High School in 2011, serving as assistant principal and athletic director before being named principal of Sherrills Ford Elementary in 2013.

“I am fortunate to have worked in several amazing communities in Catawba County throughout my career, and Fred T. Foard has been home to my family for many years,” notes Westmoreland. “ I have built many l  lasting relationships in my tenure there and am forever grateful for the personal and professional support the Foard community has given me. Serving there for the past eight years has been a great honor.”

Westmoreland further states, “I am excited to further my career in Catawba County Schools as the High School and Athletic Director. As a product of CCS, I have great faith and pride in our system and our educators. It is my pleasure to be a part of the planning and support at the district level.”
