NEWTON, November 6, 2023 -- The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) recently announced its Best of High School Press awards, and we are proud to share the remarkable achievements of two of our very own students from Fred T. Foard High School within the Catawba County Schools district.
Sophomore Julia Farris (pictured above), a talented and dedicated young photographer, has secured a remarkable 4th place nationally in the competition for her captivating photo, "From the Stands." Her artistic vision and storytelling through photography have rightfully earned her this prestigious recognition.
Furthermore, Hannah Shook, 2023 Foard graduate, has also made a significant mark on the national stage by receiving an Honorable Mention from the NSPA for her outstanding photo, "Lay It Up." Hannah's creative eye and commitment to her craft have certainly shone through in this remarkable achievement.
This recognition is not only a testament to the exceptional talent of these two students but also a source of immense pride for Fred T. Foard High School and Catawba County Schools as a whole. Their achievements are a reflection of the dedication and support of our educators, administrators, and the entire school community.
What makes this accomplishment even more extraordinary is the fact that Julia Farris and Hannah Shook were the sole representatives from the state of North Carolina to receive these prestigious honors. Their success at the national level underscores the outstanding quality of education and opportunities available within our school district.
Catawba County Schools remains committed to nurturing and celebrating the talents of our students, and Julia and Hannah's achievements are a shining example of the potential that our students possess.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Julia Farris and Hannah Shook on this outstanding achievement, and we look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in the world of photography and beyond.
