Catawba County Schools

NEWTON, May 19, 2023 -- A cohort of Catawba County Schools' employees recently completed the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy. The program is a twelve-week intensive course designed to familiarize citizens with the function, philosophies, internal policies, and guiding principles of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office. 

While participating in the Academy, participants had the opportunity to engage in some of the core elements of basic law enforcement training, including a Ride-Along with law enforcement. Tours and topics during the course included Sheriff’s Office operations, narcotics investigation, crime scene investigation, STAR team demonstration, tours of the Detention Center, 911 Communication Center, EMS, Fire and Rescue, and more. 

Graduates of the spring course were celebrated on Monday night, May 15, 2023, with a graduation ceremony and banquet.
