Dear Elementary Parents,
We are very excited to begin transitioning our 2nd-5th grade students to "Plan A" beginning October 20. We want to ensure all of our students stay as safe and healthy as possible as we welcome more students back in our buildings. One important consideration is bus transportation.
The state guidance in the Strong Schools NC Public Health Toolkit requires us to operate any bus that transports 6th-grade students in "Plan B," which only allows one student per seat to meet social distancing guidelines. In contrast, K-5 students operating under "Plan A" do not have specific seat requirements. Therefore, schools are having to rearrange some bus routes to meet all the state guidelines.
Your school will be in touch if your child's bus number, route, pick-up or drop-off times change to ensure we meet the protocols for "Plan A" and "Plan B." Any changes will begin on Tuesday, October 20.
Please note: Students in Kindergarten through 5th-grade may not be fully socially distanced because of the increased capacity allowed in "Plan A." If you are not comfortable with your student riding two per seat, please consider bringing your student to/from school, if possible. We will continue to allow family members to share seats.
Dr. Stover will discuss the transportation changes during the Virtual Town Hall meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, at 6:15 PM. We hope you'll join us online at www.catawbaschools.net/townhall.
Thank you for your continued patience and flexibility!
