Outdoor Masks No Longer Required

Good afternoon, Catawba County Schools families,

As you may have heard, Governor Cooper lifted the outdoor mask mandate in North Carolina as of today at 5 PM, due to the continued improvement to COVID-19 metrics and the increase in the number of adults in the state who have gotten vaccinated.

This new executive order affects our schools in two important ways:

  1. Students will no longer be required to wear face coverings during recess and in other outdoor activities. We will still encourage students to maintain physical distancing. Indoors, everyone must still wear face coverings, including on the bus.

  2. Athletes, coaches, and spectators will no longer be required to wear masks at outdoor athletic events. Indoor sports like wrestling will still require face coverings for all coaches, guests, and athletes not actively on the mat.

We are excited and encouraged that things continue to normalize for our students and staff as we finish out this unusual school year strong.

If you are interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine, the Catawba County Health Department has plenty of appointments available for free vaccinations to everyone 16 years and older. Click here to learn more.

Have a great weekend!
