Mt. View Elementary Wins District Battle of the Books Competition!

Sixteen teams from each of Catawba County Schools' elementary schools gathered on Tuesday, March 15, 2023, at the Hickory Metro Convention Center for the district Battle of the Books Competition. Sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association, Elementary Battle of the Books (EBOB) is an annual competition among teams consisting of 4th and 5th graders. Students read 15 books and then compete against one another in a 'quiz bowl' type competition. Elementary teams compete at local and regional levels.

Catawba County Schools' Elementary Battle of the Books Champion for 2022-23 is Mountain View Elementary. The Mt. View team will represent our district in the upcoming regional EBOB competition on April 27, 2023. Clyde Campbell Elementary finished in 2nd Place, while the team from St. Stephens Elementary placed 3rd.

Teams from participating schools across the state read books from a selected list each year and compete against each other, answering specific detailed questions about the books.  A committee from the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA) puts together the title list each year.

EBOB team members read books from the year's selected list and become content "experts" on some of the titles. The primary goal is for students to read the books, taking note of specific details in the books, as well as learning the authors and titles of all the books on the list. The goal of the team is not for every student on the team to read all the books on the list but for all the books to be covered among the team.

Congratulations to all of our Elementary Battle of the Books participants and volunteers this year!
