CATAWBA COUNTY SCHOOLS HOSTS DISTRICT MATH COMPETITION
17 teams of elementary school "mathletes" converged on the Hickory Metro Center this morning for the Catawba Counts district math competition. The teams representing the district's 16 elementary schools and a team from our Online Catawba virtual learning program competed both as teams and individuals in today's event.
The day began with written math tests for both teams and individuals. The top 8 individual mathletes advanced to the "face-off" round, where students competed head-to-head. These finalists demonstrated their quick thinking in solving math equations within 10 seconds, buzzing in with their responses until only one champion remained.
Aidan Z. of Clyde Campbell Elementary was named the 2023 Individual Mathlete Champion, while Sherrills Ford Elementary took team honors.
Many thanks to the teachers, district staff, and volunteers who made this event possible!
