    Outdoor Classroom

On Monday night, the PTO recognized Mac Johnson for completing his Eagle Scout project of an outdoor classroom at HMA.  The outdoor classroom is located behind the school in a secure fenced in area.  We are thankful for Mac and the hard work required to complete the project.  Our students and teachers will enjoy this new learning facility at Arndt.

    Latino Night

HMA hosted a night for our Latino families on Tuesday.  A BIG thanks to the families who participated and Mr. Rojas for organizing the event.

    Progress Reports

In an effort to save money on paper and printing supplies, we are encouraging parents to check their child’s grades in PowerSchool as an alternative to sending home mid-quarter progress reports.  PowerSchool allows parents to check grades and assignments anytime during the school year.  So parents do not forget, the school will send reminders at the mid-quarter mark for parents to check grades.  Please contact the school if you do not have a PowerSchool code for your child.  A letter will be sent home on Monday giving parents the option to receive hard copies of their child’s progress reports.

    School Improvement Goals

The HMA School Improvement Team (SIT) meets monthly to discuss and set specific goals for our school.  In the September meeting, the SIT decided to focus on the following three goals:

    1. ALL teachers employ effective classroom management and reinforce classroom rules and procedures by positively teaching them.
    2. The principal monitors curriculum and classroom instruction regularly and provides timely, clear, constructive feedback to teachers.
    3. The school regularly communicates with parents/guardians about its expectations of them and the importance of the curriculum of the home (what parents can do at home to support their children's learning).

We invite parents share any ideas you may have related to how we can achieve these goals.  The SIT is currently in the process of developing plans on how to accomplish each goal.  Parents can access the school improvement system with the following link: http://www.indistar.org/   login: username - GuestS15800    Password - GuestS15800

     2017 Christmas Bureau

The Catawba County Christmas Bureau is a collective effort among many county agencies to provide food, toys, clothes, and coats to children and teenagers in need of assistance during the Christmas season.  Gifts are distributed at the American Legion Fairgrounds in December.  A letter will go home with students on Thursday, September 28.
