  • Auditions!

Posted by Chad Schuermeyer on 8/24/2015

Welcome back to school!  It's time to audition for the Fall play!

The play we are doing is A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare.  This is one of my favorite Shakespeare plays ever!

    • Auditions are Monday, August 31 after school
    • Rehearsals are after school Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning September 8
    • The show is Thursday and Friday, November 19 & 20 at 7PM

    What is the play about?

Two pairs of lovers run off into the forest after some problems back at home.  In the forest there are some fairies.  One of those faires is called Robin Goodfellow, or Puck.  Puck squeezes the juice of a special flower into the eyes of the lovers.  This makes them fall in love with the first person or thing they see.  This creates a lot of problems for the lovers!

Also in the forest are a troupe of actors rehearsing a play.  Puck decides to have some fun and turns one of the actors into a monster.  The rest of the actors run away in fear.

Things continue until the king of the fairies puts things right.

    Who do I need?

4 lovers: 2 boys and 2 girls.  These will have a lot of physical comedy.  Fighting, running, etc.

King or Queen: Comes in at the end of the play to watch the troupe of actors.

King and Queen of the Fairies: In charge of their own groups of fairies.  The queen falls in love with the actor turned into a monster.

Acting troupe: A group of very bad actors!

    • Quince: The leader
    • Bottom: The superstar
    • Flute: Has to play the girl
    • Snout: Plays a wall
    • Starveling: Plays the moon
    • Snug: Plays a lion

Puck (Robin Goodfellow): A sneaky fairy who is helping the King of the Fairies.  He likes making the lovers fight and watching what happens.

Fairies, Woodland creatures, etc. These are the magical creatures that live in the forest.  They help either the King or the Queen of the fairies.

What do I need to audition?

Fill out the audition form and bring it to me by Monday, August 31

Be in the Drama room after school Monday, August 31.

Be familiar with the audition sides.  These are some pieces of the script.  Be ready to read any of the parts.  You do not have to have it memorized, but it would help to know what you are saying.  Click here for the sides.

Be ready to try new things...show me how great you are!
