COPPA - Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

  • COPPA Form

As you know, teachers are increasingly using external websites as instructional tools in the classroom. While this practice is appropriate, any website that requires students to create an account or provide personal information is subject to a Federal law known as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

COPPA applies any time personal information of children under the age of 13, such as a student’s name and email address, is collected by a website operator. Under COPPA, these websites must provide parental notification and obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. For more information on COPPA, please visit http://www.ftc.gov/privacy/coppafaqs.shtm.
