Thank you for taking the time to read my About Me page! My name is Mark Simmons and I am the Social Studies teacher on the Dragons team at Mill Creek. I grew up in Winston-Salem and graduated from North Forsyth High School, (Go Vikings!!) in 1985. I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Political Science and English Literature from UNCG (Go Spartans!!) in 1989. After graduating from UNCG, I became a flight attendant with US Airways and would spend the next 12 years as a flight attendant and flight attendant instructor. I was offered and accepted a position to teach at Mill Creek on September 10th, 2001 and the world changed the next day! My accepting the teaching position was one of the most fortuitous, life changing decisions I have ever made!
I have been teaching Social Studies at Mill Creek since 2001. I am currently the Varsity Mens and Womens soccer coach at Bandys. In the past, at Mill Creek, I have also coached boys and girls soccer, baseball and boys basketball. My former students will tell you that I enjoy reading, history, words and vocabulary. I have been married for 26 years. My oldest son, Jacob, is a computer software analyst for a large company, my middle son, Thomas, is a Senior at NC State majoring in Political Science with minors in Russian, History and International Studies and my youngest son, Stephen is a Sophomore at NC State majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
I am a HUGE soccer fan. My favorite teams are LIVERPOOL FC...YNWA.... from the English Premier League and the US National teams. USA!! USA!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE US WOMEN ON THEIR 2015 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
