  • The Banoak Buzz: September 9-13

This is Mr. Stocks with a look at the week ahead, but first I'd like to take a moment to brag on our students and staff.  Our Chargers were able to EXCEED the state growth model last school year.  We were one of 8 schools in Catawba County to accomplish this.  I'm excited to have our students on the same track of success for this school year and look forward to the great things Banoak can accomplish.  This is a community celebration because our families are instrumental in the support and trust you give us to provide quality education to our young Chargers.

We have a busy week at Banoak as we look to celebrate our grandparents by inviting them to join us for lunch:

2nd, 5th, and Kindergarten grandparents on Tuesday, 9/10

    3rd and 6th grade on Thursday, 9/12

    1st and 4th grade on Friday, 9/13

Please check social media post for the times of arrival for each grade level.  We'll have adequate parking and volunteers to help our grandparents navigate to the new cafeteria.  Again, please check times on our website or Facebook page.

Our 3rd grade students will participate in the Beginning of Grade reading test on Wednesday, 9/11.  We'll begin the test close to the morning start time so please be sure our 3rd graders and present and well-rested.

Our gym should be accessible by mid-week, and we look forward to hosting The Hovercraft Project for our 6th graders on Friday. We do require liability waivers for these and will have those to parents Monday.  We've hosted this for the past several years, and it's always a great experience for our students.

Lastly, I'd like to thank you for your patience.  Our construction is on-going and as expected there are always bumps in the road.  We address concerns as quickly as possible, and as of this past Friday afternoon should have every classroom at a comfortable state.

Thank you for your support and continued patience and your celebration of our successes as we Charge Forward and Charge Together!

Ident-A-Kid Safety Day and InfoSnap Update

IDENT-A-KID Safety Day is tomorrow, Thursday, September 12th. If you have not yet returned the application form to your child's teacher, it's not too late to participate in this very important safety program.  Simply complete your form and return it with your child tomorrow morning.  If you did not receive a form or have misplaced it, extra forms are available in the office.

In addition, I'd like to express the need for everyone to complete InfoSnap.  For those who haven't completed the process you're getting emails/letters almost daily.  Please check your spam folder for this information and have it completed.  There are important forms in the registration process, such as COPPA and AUP, that allow your child to access technology at school.  Without these permissions, your child cannot use a computer.

Also, please consider looking at the CCS website for applying for free and reduced lunch forms.  We have several student who are accumulating a lot of lunch debt early on.  We also have paper forms in the office.

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to seeing our Chargers in the morning!

  • Mental Health Services

Catawba County Schools is excited to announce that we are expanding the mental health services that are available for our students. Beginning in the 2017 – 2018 school year, we will contract with Support, Inc. to provide School Based Therapy in all of our schools. Without ever having to leave the school campus, your child can work confidentially with an individual therapist on issues impacting their lives. Support, Inc. can begin the referral process for your child this summer and provide services without delay when school starts back. If your child has previously received school-based therapy services from another provider, you can transfer your services to Support, Inc. this summer as well. Please contact Maria Ballard, Director of Student Services, if you would like additional information or if you have any questions.
