This has been a remarkable year here around The Bend. Here are some highlights of this school year.
Academics. Our student performance on benchmarks and teacher-made assessments leave reflect the hard work students have put into their classwork and homework. We anticipate a strong showing on the end-of-year statewide assessments this year.
Behavior. As a result of an all-around good student body combined with our staff's work on the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) model, we have had another excellent year in terms of student behavior. With barely of 100 office referrals for the year (far below the state average), our staff has been able to focus on academics, positive staff-student relationships, and some of the extra fun stuff that makes middle school so special.
Athletics. We finished the year with three conference championships: football (first-ever for the school), wrestling (also the first ever for the school), and our fifth baseball conference championship. In addition to the championship teams, our other sports have been competitive and lots of 7th graders will be returning on our athletic teams in hopes of being even stronger next year.
Extra-Curricular. There are too many accolades to list in the message for our extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. We have had a record number of students place in honors bands, we finished in the top 10 in the state in NCASA's "12" academic trivia competition, and had several artists receive regional and state recognition. Our Anchor Down service project has been a huge success as students have impacted the community by cleaning up roads and public areas, volunteering for civic events, visited elementary schools, and collaborated with the hospitals and emergency services just to name a few.
We could not achieve the results listed above without the support of our parents and community. We thank all who have helped River Bend Middle School have a remarkable 2017-2018 school year.
