research-based practices, and developing
supportive systems to teach all
students new behaviors.

Recognition Celebration was held on November 4th as part
of the 64th Conference
on Exceptional Children at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.
on behalf of our school to receive our Exemplar Banner
were Rita Lail,
principal, and Jan Tripp, counselor.

We Are Learning Through the Decades!
This year, Balls Creek students will be celebrating their learning
by 'dressing for the decade' throughout the year.
It all started when students celebrated the '50th Day of School' on
November 6th by dressing in clothes from the 1950's and participating in a
50's style sock-hop in the gym.
Upcoming celebrations will include:
November 21 - The 60th Day of School
Break out the tie-dye, bell bottoms and paisley prints!
December 10 - The 70th Day of School
It's the Disco decade! Let's see your best retro style.
January 7 - The 80th Day of School
Leg warmers, jelly bracelets and wind breakers are in style!
This celebration will include another dance party with DJ Aiello.
Folk Artist Visits Art Classes at Balls Creek
Duke Energy Foundation graciously provided a grant to enable folk artist, Theresa Gloster, and Ginny Zeller Education Director form the Hickory Museum of Art to visit art classes at Balls Creek Elementary.
On Friday, October 3, Theresa Gloster, a local North Carolina Folk artist from Lenoir, shared her artwork and also worked with students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The students created a painting based on a personal experience or idea. These paintings were displayed at the Lake Norman Folk Art Festival on Saturday, October 4. Students and Parents were invited to attend the Folk Art Festival to view the student art.
