Balls Creek Students "Read to Succeed"
On Tuesday, April 28 Balls Creek Elementary School celebrated reading success
with a "Read to Succeed" pep rally! The highlights of our night included a staff performance,
a student performance featuring our Music Ensemble and third grade students, a visit
from Conrad and parent information sessions where parents learned strategies for
helping students read to succeed!
Math Olympiad Teams Travel to App State
On Thursday, April 23 the Balls Creek Math Olympiad team traveled to Appalachian State
University to compete in the Elevating Mathematics competition. There were 30
teams represented in the competition.
Our two sixth grade teams took home 4th and 6th place in the competition.
The fifth grade team placed 13th and our fourth grade team placed 14th.
Cayden G placed 14th out of 150 students that attended.
Balls Creek 5K and Fun Run
On Friday, April 24 the students, staff and community of Balls Creek came together
for the annual Balls Creek 5K and Mr. B's Fun Run. This event started four years ago
in an effort to encourage healthy and active lifestyles in our community while
Hands on Learning for Kindergarten Students
Our Kindergarten students have been very busy the month of of April enjoyingseveral hands-on learning opportunities. It all started with an egg hunt beforeSpring Break where students looked for eggs containing their first and last name.Later this month students visited Bandys High School for AG Day and learned about 2D and 3D shapes in math class. Art Excellence at Balls Creek
Recently Catawba County in partnership with the Hickory Museum of Art sponsored a
Keep Catawba County Beautiful recycled art contest. Several Balls Creek students placed in the event
and Grace Williams, Art Teacher, received a monetary award to purchase art supplies for the
Balls Creek Art Program. WAY TO GO ARTISTS!!!
Sixth grader Andrew T. received 1st place and Whitney S. received 2nd place.
Fifth graders Sara Y., Morgan M., and Savannah V. received honorable mentions.
In addition, the following students' artwork was selected to be displayed in the
Paul Whitener Memorial Student Art Exhibit at the Hickory Museum of Art.
