PBIS Team

This team represents the voices of the entire staff at Startown Elementary School.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess current behavior managment practices
  • Examine patterns of behavior
  • Obtain staff committment
  • Develop a school-wide plan
  • Obtain parental participation and input
  • Oversee, monitor, and evaluate all planned objectives and activities developed by the team

 What is Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS)?

Positive Behavior Intervention & Support is...

  • Proactive systems approach to school-wide discipline (not a curriculum) designed to be responsive to current social and educational challenges through assessment and development of effective interventions
  • Focuses on prevention and instruction
  • Promotes positive student and staff behavior that incorporates empirically validated practices
  • Expectations for student behavior are defined by a building team with all staff input
  • Implemented consistently by staff and administration
  • Positive behaviors are publicly acknowledged
  • Problem behaviors have clear consequences
