Welcome to my Art Webpage!

Welcome to a new year at St. Stephens Elementary!

Whether you are a returning student or a new one, I am looking forward to seeing each one of you.

Our school-wide theme this year is TEAMWORK and our focus in class is  GLOBAL ART.  Exploring art from various cultures will help to analyze, explain and judge art images.  Art units will reflect areas of study related to what is being studied in each grade level to further build connections with all team members.

Following the procedures of the classroom and the school-wide “Student Expectations” is very important as we practice teambuilding in art class.  Each student will take turns being a “table manager” or “table coordinator” in an effort to build teamwork and responsibility.

Samples of student work will be kept in a class portfolio.  This portfolio will be a way to assess and evaluate their learning in the arts, as well as a place to keep finished artwork for upcoming art exhibits and displays.   With most of the exhibits occurring in the spring, one or two pieces of the student’s artwork will be retained in the art  room for that purpose.  The art grade each quarter will be based on a student following procedure, effort, and participation.

Parents are welcome to visit SSE’s hallways to see artwork on display at any time.  If you have any questions throughout the school year or would like to volunteer in the art room, please call me.  (828) 256-2570, ext. 1153
