RBMS Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a program for middle school students, grades 7-8, designed to promote reading and comprehension skills. Students at participating schools read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committee, and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books.

The RBMS Battle of the Books team competes with other Middle Schools in Catawba County. Click on the link to the left to see the latest BOB Book List for this year.

How does it work? Shortly after school begins in the fall, interested students are given a list of 27 books to read. Once the River Bend team is selected, meetings are held 2 afternoons each week in the Media Center from 3:30-4:30. During practice, students are asked questions that start with the question "In which book...?" Students are asked to name the title and author of the book where answers to the questions can be found. After months of reading and practicing, the RBMS team competes against the other Middle School teams in Catawba County.
