Poetry Notebooks

In our classroom we use poetry notebooks to practice fluency, visualization, and comprehension! Each week during morning meeting, we read our featured poem and discuss it. We read in many ways! We read chorally or dramatically. I may read a stanza, then the students read the next. We also have student leaders read and point. No matter how we read it, we read it every day! This not only builds fluency, it builds confidence!

On Fridays we glue our poems in our notebooks and illustrate each stanza with our visualizations.
