Famous North Carolinians Multi-genre projects

You are all invited to take part along with me in a North Carolina adventure. We will be trekking into North Carolina's past to discover a little about the famous people we have raised! Each of you will be assigned a famous (and some infamous) North Carolinian to research. After compiling enough sources, you will embark on the real journey; a multi-genre project...

We will be researching in the library and the computer labs for about a week. Feel free to do some research of your own at home.

We will take the research and compile a “multi-genre” research paper.  A multi-genre paper is a collection of different types of writing. Genre means a kind or type of something. Each student will write a multi-genre paper about their person. Your report will consist of different types (genres) of writing about your selected person based on information from your research.  The choice of genres is endless and while most are written they can also be graphic. Below is a list of possible genres to create. I have also included an example paper. All genres should be created by the student with the majority of our class time in the mornings dedicated to researching and producing.  Final product can be displayed in a number of ways including, but not limited to: tri-board display, booklet, scrapbook, hypertext power point, etc.

As a culminating event, we will dress as our famous North Carolinian and prepare a 1 minute summary of their life. You will read, or have memorized the summary to other classes as they visit our classroom.

Please look over the packet and if you have any questions, email or call me.

Museum examples-students wrote a 1 minute summary of their person's life. They earned extra points if they memorized the lines, but could use a notecard if necessary. Here are a few examples of costumes.
