This March we received a clump of frog eggs from a student's pond! We had just read Frogs by Gail Gibbons and we were hooked on her way of telling nonfiction: especially animals! When a teachable moment arises-we take advantage!
Day 1

We set up a habitat in a bucket and filled it with puddle water, a lily, and at least 200 eggs! We weighted it down with a rock and covered with a screen to keep out the predators. |
Day 3 |
We have froggy babies! About half of the tadpoles are feverishly swimming about! |
Day 4
They have doubled in size-about 2 cm long! We are starting to notice many have not made it and sunk to the bottom. |
Day 10
We transferred the tadpoles to a 10 gallon tank today complete with plenty of algae to munch on. We have noticed they always stay on the sides of the tank or the plants. There are still atleast 100 tadpoles! Since we are having a chilly, frosty week here in NC, they are in our room for now. |
Day 11
We see arm buds on the tadpoles! They are very interested in the water plants we added yesterday. The lily has become the new hangout area. |
Day 20

We took several pictures of our friends under the microscope today. They have grown a lot, but you can see they are still about the size of a pencil point!
