 The abc's of Room 205

Attendance-Many 2nd grade activities are completed as a class or in groups. Making up learning activities is next to impossible so it is important your child be at school daily!

Brain Binders-your child's portfolio is a constantly evolving piece. Students graph all test scores and we keep class goals. You will have the opportunity to see the portfolios during student-led conferences.

Communication-The easiest way to get a hold of Mrs. Lamb is email! If I do not return your call-call back!  Please let me know of any issues sooner rather than later. A written note must accompany your child if they are to go home in a different way than normal.

Daily 5-I use Daily 5 to address the literacy needs of individuals in our classroom. We have rounds of mini-lessons on strategies and skills followed by practice rounds.
Dismissal-School is dismissed at 2:30.

Email-the best way to reach me! I also setup a email "tree" so you can receive newsletters and photo updates so make sure I have your contact info!

Field trips-Second grade will have several field trips this year. Every child must have signed permission to attend so return those promptly.

Grades-All report card grades are now S, N, U grades. Students consistently performing above grade level receive a score of S+.

Homework-Your child will have nightly homework. Each night they are expected to read, fill out their log, and complete a review math sheet. Students turning in all homework for the month are inducted into the 100% Homework Club!

Important Info-Please send any changes to address, phone numbers, parent work contact, etc. in to me so I can reach you in case of emergency.

Journals-Students keep a Poetry Journal filled with poems and a Word Journal housing their weekly sorts, personal dictionaries, and vocabulary.

Kindness-We work together as a class to solve problems in class meetings and appreciate one another through "Bucket Filling".

Lunch-We eat lunch around 11:30. You are welcome to join your child for lunch anytime.

Money-Please send all money in a sealed envelope with your child's name written on it.

Math-What your child learned in first grade will blend beautifully with 2nd grade skills. Remember to be open to new ways of adding and subtracting larger numbers! I will send parent letters with each new unit.

Newsletters-Newsletters are sent home several times each month. You can recieved them through email or view them online on our webpage.

Open House-We will hold an Open House in September. Please plan to attend.

Pets-We have several classroom pets including a rabbit, hedgehog, fish, tarantula, and Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Having and caring for animals promotes kindness and responsibility.

Quick and Quiet Hellos-As you volunteer in our school please address your child with a quick and quiet hello so they may continue working.

Rules-We follow five rules. When students break a rule they must practice the rule for 2 minutes during recess. Any student repeatedly breaking a rule will have a note sent home explaining the problem.

Snazzy Snacks-Each month we practice handwriting with Snazzy Snacks. At the end of the year we bind all our recipes and take them home.

Tardies-Being tardy for school disrupts your child's learning as well as the classes. We begin at 8:00. All tardies must be signed in with a parent.

Urge-I urge you to never work harder on your child's homework that they do! ALl homework is meant to be a review. If they do not understand something, have them write "Help" on their homework and I will work with them the next day.

Volunteers-We love them! Moms, dads, grandparents...just remember you must have a background check to work with students per county rules.

Website-Our website is updated weekly. Check it often!
Water-your child may have clear water in a pop-top bottle. Screw top lids and anything colored cause a mess.

I am eXcited to work with YOU and YOUR child this year! Make sure he or she gets plenty of Zzzz's each night as we have lots of exciting learning planned for the year!
