Word Journals
Every student keeps up with a word journal in our class. It is divided into two sections: a word collector and word work.
The Word Collector is the front section. The pages are labeled alphabetically. We jot down interesting words during Read to Self, Amazing Words from the basal, and words from read-alouds. Students may add any word they choose. We all add words from the reading basal. We also keep a Word Collector on chart paper in the room.
Our Word Work is the second section. Here we record work from Working on Words during
Daily 5
and all our spelling sorts. This is also where our spelling tests are completed and kept.
