Our Reading Instruction is based on the Literacy CAFE, a management system developed by "The Sisters". It does not replace guided reading, but rather helps me to focus my instruction where it is needed. Students who are working in the same area are pulled as a small group. These are flexible groups based solely on student need. Students in the same group may or may not have the same reading ability.
These areas include: Fluency, Accuracy, Comprehension, and Expanding Vocabulary.  Their book uses the acronym CAFE-students read from the full "menu" of strategies!

During the Daily 5, our Vocabulary, Strategy, and Skills whole group lessons and CAFE strategy groups lessons (small group) will focus on these strategies and skills.
