I was born and raised in Catawba County. I graduated from Bandys High School, then attended CVCC and Appalachian State University, where I received a B.A. in Psychology. I worked in the mental health field for several years while attending graduate school at Lenoir-Rhyne. In 2000, I received a M.A. in School & Community/Agency Counseling.
My first School Counseling position was at North Brook Elementary in Lincoln County. I spent six wonderful years before I had the opportunity to transfer to a new school, Norris S. Childers Elementary. Although I loved working in Lincoln County, when the chance to finally come home to work in Catawba County became available, I had to take it. I've been at Oxford since February 2008.
I received my National Boards in School Counseling in 2005, and I was honored to be named "Lincoln County School Counselor of the Year" in 2006-07.
I live in the Balls Creek community with my husband, Mike, who works for the Catawba County Sheriff's Office and is a volunteer firefighter for Catawba VFD. I love animals, and have a cat named Pepper and a dog named Bella. I also enjoy reading, bird watching, photography, and going camping with my husband at the beach and the mountains.
I LOVE being a School Counselor! I always say I have the greatest job in the world, because I get to know and work with every student and teacher in the school. If I can be of help to at least one child, one parent, or one teacher...then I feel as if I've done my job.
