To be an effective School Counselor, I feel it's important to serve ALL students and for them to feel comfortable visiting me if they are having a problem. One way the students and I get to know each other is through regular classroom visits called "guidance" classes.
Classroom Guidance consists of age and developmentally appropriate lessons based on many topics, including character education, personal awareness, peer relations, academic success, and career awareness. We may also discuss important issues such as the dangers of drug/alcohol abuse, peer pressure, bullying and conflict resolution, health and safety, or environmental awareness. Lessons may consist of class discussions, stories, games, or other activities to help students learn.
Each visit last about 30-40 minutes, depending on grade level. I am in most classes at least once a month between September and April. Students do not miss core academic subjects during my visits.
If you have any questions about something your child has learned during one of my visits, feel free to email or call me.
