Math: Students have learned how to dissect math word problems using key words and other strategies. They have also learned how to complete mult-step word problems and how to write some of their own. Students will take a test on Unit 5 this week and complete unit 6 before Christmas break. After break, students will start Unit 7 and one of the most challenging units we have...Multiplication!!! Students are required to learn and memorize the multiplication facts. If you are out over Christmas, consider buying some flash cards.
Science: This nine weeks we are focused on Plants. We planted Wisconsin fast plants after Thanksgiving and have been looking forward to them growing and we still are. They are not growing for some students. We will continue to grow and measure the ones we do have.
Reading: Students are loving guided reading groups. They say that their day goes by faster! I guess time flies when you are having fun! The students loved working with the novel The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and going to see the play on Friday December 9! The students used a three-circled Venn diagram to compare and contrast the book, movie, and play! We will continue in the basal this week and move to some more novels after Christmas!
Social Studies: Our students have finished their invention project and are looking forward to sharing those powerpoint slides before break!
