Fiesta Pictures!

Here are the pictures of our “Fiesta de Invierno 2010”. We enjoyed delicious food, good music and a fantastic group of dancer that performed Aztec dances. At the end the children had fun trying to break the “Piñata”. Also, parents were informed about the EOG test in May and the ACCESS test coming up in February.

Aqui pueden ver algunas de las fotos de nuestra “Fiesta de Invierno 2010”. Disfrutamos comida deliciosa, buena música y un fantástico grupo de danza que nos deleitó con varias rutinas de Danza Azteca. Al final, los niños disfrutaron tratando de romper la “Piñata”.

También se informó a los padres acerca del Test EOG a tomarse en mayo y del Test ACCESS el próximo mes de febrero.

Counting to 100

Check out new pictures from Mrs. LaRose's 1st graders. They created pictures out of 100 Fruit Loops they they counted. All extras not used in the picture were eaten!

Fiesta de Invierno !

Our Latino Winter Party is coming up. So…mark your calendars: January 21!!!

It is going to be a fun party. You will be receiving an invitation next Tuesday, January 12.

Muy pronto tendremos nuestra Fiesta de Invierno Latina. La fiesta se llevará a cabo el dia jueves 21 de enero….Asi que marque sus calendarios. Va a ser una fiesta muy divertida!!! Usted recibirá una invirtación el próximo martes 12 de enero la cual tendrá que contestar dejándonos saber si vendrá a la fiesta o no.

Cultural Opportunity!

There is going to be an interesting exhibit at the Hickory Museum of Art: “A Celebration of Heritage: The Face and Voice of Latinos in the Catawba Valley” The exhibit will be up from January 9 through May 23. This exhibit is free and open to everybody.

We hope you get to go to learn more about our culture in Catawba Valley!!!

Muy pronto tendremos la oportunidad de ver una interesante exhibición en el Museo de Arte de Hickory: “Una Celebración del Patrimonio Latino: Rostro y Voz de los Lationos en el Valle de Catawba” La exhibición se llevará a cabo del 9 de Enero al 23 de Mayo. Esto es gratis y está abierto para todo el público.

Esperamos que usted se anime y venga a presenciar algo más de nuestra cultura en el Valle de Catawba!!!

Meet Mrs. Greko!

Hello! I am Mrs. Greko. This is my first year teaching at Webb Murray and I am enjoying it! I am from Peru, South America. I earned my bachelors degree in Elementary Ed. from the Pontific Catholic University of Lima, Peru. When I came to USA 16 years ago I had to learn English. Then, I took a test to get a license to be able to teach in the USA. After that I went to school again and got an ESL licensure from Lenoir Rhyne University. I love to learn about other cultures, to travel, to walk, and to cook dishes from all over the world!

¡Hola! Yo soy la maestro Greko. Este es mi primer año en la escuela Webb Murray lo cual estoy disfrutando mucho! Nací en Lima, Perú, Sudamérica. Estudié y me gradué como maestra de educación primaria en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Lima. Cuando llegué a USA estudié mucho inglés y tomé el examen PRAXIS II, lo cual me dio la oportunidad de enseñar en Carolina del Norte. Después estudié dos años en la Universidad Lenoir Rhyne para obtener mi licenciatura en ESL.

Me gusta mucho aprender de otras culturas, viajar, leer, caminar y cocinar deliciosos platillos de diferentes países.

M&M

This week in 1st grade, we sorted M&Ms, graphed them, and answered questions about our graph. Some of the things we talked about were:

-Which color did you have the most of?

-Which color did you have the least of?

-How many more reds did you have than green? (with all colors)

We also practiced talking about our graph and writing about the information on our graph. Part of ESL is learning how to talk and write about all subjects, including math.

More Spiders!

1st grade had a wonderful time learning about spiders. We drew pictures of spiders and labeled them. We also wrote 3 or more sentences telling what we learned about spiders. Check out our playdough spiders in the pictures file. Can you find the eyes, legs, cephalothorax, abdomen, and spinnerets???

Spiders!

Mrs. LaRose's 1st graders are learning about spiders this week. We will be reading books about spiders, looking at pictures and videos of spiders on the internet, and even learning the main parts of the spider's body. We will also be writing about spiders and practicing talking about what we learned.
