Welcome to the Maiden Middle School Webpage! As you browse through our site, we hope that you will become familiar with the many opportunities available to our young scholars and that you will glean information on how parents may become involved in the education of our students.
Maiden Middle is one of five middle schools in the Catawba County School System. We have just over 500 students in grades 7 and 8. Our students are involved in a myriad of activities that tap into their strengths and interests in academics, athletics, performing arts, club functions and school and community service.
In addition to our students’ strong foundations in the four core areas of math, language arts, science and social studies, our young people are schooled in a variety of elective courses ranging from Handbells and Piano to Web Design and GPS Technology. We also offer Band, Chorus, Theatre Arts, Dance, Spanish, Video Production, Career Exploration, Computer Skills, Physical Education and Weight Lifting / Conditioning. Many of our students are enrolled in online courses through the North Carolina Virtual Public Schools Program, and are earning high school credits in various subjects such as Latin I, German I, Spanish I, French I and World History.
Our school has a rich tradition of academic success. We have made consistent progress in all of the state tested areas, and met the standard for student growth in the 2010 – 2011 school year. Our students and teachers utilize the latest in technology with iPads, iPods, PRS systems, GPS units, document cameras, netbooks, SchoolPads and LCD projectors.
In addition to their pursuits in the classroom, our students compete in a variety of athletics. We field teams in soccer, football, volleyball, softball, golf, baseball, wrestling, basketball, cheerleading and cross country. Our campus is also the site of numerous student organizations ranging from Student Council to the International Club. Our newest addition, the Cyber Robotics Team, promises to be an exciting and fun way for students to hone their technology skills.
The success experienced by our students may be attributed to a dedicated and talented staff of educators. Our staff works diligently to provide the optimal environment for students to learn and grow, both academically and socially. Though the middle school years can be challenging, our students, staff and parents work together to ensure that our students will step into high school with the skills needed to pursue their career dreams.
