Catawba County Schools has purchased a subscription to the website Gaggle.net.
Every student and staffmember is given a login to more that just email.
All kinds of resources are available to students to plan, share, and work in a safe community.

When students login to Gaggle, they find their homescreen. This example shows just on customization showing the inbox, local weather, the social wall, homework dropboxes, and their digital locker.

There is also a calendar screen. Events can be shared between students and teacher. Anything from homework due dates, sporting events, and friends' birthdays. Teachers can help students develop planning and goal setting strategies.

The digital locker is a place for students to store their notes and work. The IT staff doesn't need to worry about all those flashdrives coming in with viruses. Students don't have to worry about leaving an important assignment in their network folder at school or on their desktop machine at home. Teachers can even put notes, worksheets, or other resources directly into student digital lockers before class starts.
Homework dropboxes allow students to turn in assignments at any time of day or night. Teachers set them up, including a due date, at let students know they are open through the email system.
