JFMS Laptop Initiative

Laptops in my class? How's that going to happen?

Laptopping in class.During the 2009-2010 school year, we became intrigued with the idea of using laptops full time in our classrooms.  We had been lucky enough to have access to computer labs and mobile laptop labs, but saw the potential of using laptops everyday in every class.  The wheels began turning.

How could we get laptops for every child on our academic team?

What resources were out there for us to use?

What kind of permissions were we going to need to get?

And the one question that scared us…how much is this going to cost us?

Almost jokingly, we approach our principal, Dr. Jeff Isenhour, and asked if it was something we could work on.  He was supportive and opened a new train of thought for us.  Why not let the kids bring their own laptops to school?

Great idea, but now what?

 The purpose of our site

The purpose of this website it to let others know what we did.  We have been lucky to have supportive administration and central office staff who have helped us overcome the many issues that follow a decision like ours.  We realize that not all schools systems and schools will have the resources that we have in Catawba County.  We do, however, want other teachers and administrators to starting thinking about what they can do to help these 21st century learners excel in our ever-changing world.
