 Monday

Ch. 2 Test Friday !!!   Study guide - do some each night, Ch. 2 Review pages due Wed., Set D Quiz post-poned to 10/27

Review of first 3 characteristics of quality water and completion of the last three - nitrates, pH and biological indicators.  Do virtual turbidity testing!  See linked site!

 Tuesday

1.  Review page due Wed.  2.  DC Trip payment #2 due Wed.  3.  Use study guide for Ch. 2 Test on Friday!

Reviewed 6 healthy water characteristics and the fact that trout are one of the most sensitive organisms - if they are present then the water is of high quality.  Read "Everyone Poops" by Taro Gomi - yes all this and more goes into the half % of Earth' s freshwater available to us!  We took a virtual field trip to the Blue Plains Waste Water Treatment Plant and then began discussion about what happens to our water if we have private wells, not city water (see web links for virtual tour and septic tank animations) and class documents for the power point notes on wastewater ( 11 slides)

 Wednesday

Use study guide, circle book, diagrams, notes, text .. for Ch. 2 Test on Friday!

Looked at links to wastewater management in a septic tank and a "Dirty Jobs" video to learn how a septic tank should look and what's involved in cleaning one!  W e compared waste water treatment plant filtering of water to septic tank filtering.  We worked in groups to do an activity called "Odd One Out."  The groups worked to select which term or concept didn't fit with the group and why - there are many correct answers if you know your science and can justify your answers!  Homework was collected!

 Thursday

Study for Ch. 2 Test on Friday and get parent signatures on planner and JAG TAG!

Performed a ClassScape Freshwater practice assessment to review water quality concepts, Viewed and discussed two websites about groundwater pollution, use and conservation, collected late Ch. 2 worksheets.  Watch the "Groundwater Story with words and then without to see if you really know your water terminology and processes!

 Friday

No school Monday!

Have a good weekend and review Set D terms for Vocabulary Quiz on Tuesday!!!

Students will take their Ch. 2 Freshwater Test and complete an 8th grade, goal 3 standardized task for their portfolios of saved work to evidence their science knowledge.  With time permitting they are to begin reading about our oceans  - Ch.3, Sect 1!
